Just watched the original 1951 movie The Day The Earth Stood Still and I really liked this one too! |

This was the very first time I had watched the movie and it was pretty good - I really liked Michael Rennie as Klaatu, a bit more warmer than the Keanu Reeves character. Something about Rennie's Klaatu just made you want to feel more for him. Watching the 2008 version before watching the original didn't affect me much - I didn't have any expectations of one being better than the other when I watched the original. The movies could obviously be compared to each other in story but I thought both movies were different enough to be their own movie. I saw that people have made reference to the remake going "green" in that the overall concern was of Earth and not the concern for the Earth's "neighbours" as in the original; just a concern of a different time. I did get a kick out of seeing other differences of the times - almost everyone popping out a smoke, Helen Benson's role being a secretary, scenes of people huddled around a radio :-) Here's something for you - the script for the original: http://www.scifiscripts.com/scripts/TheDayTheEarthStoodSTill.html |
